Are running moms ruining it for for all the other moms?

Jen Singer, author of the wonderful blog Mommasaid.net, wrote a post about moms that combine a running career with motherhood.

Running moms are ruining it for all the other moms

She feels these moms are ruining it for all the other moms, by raising the bar way too high. Instead of being able to feel proud you got out of your pyjamas, these supermoms make you feel like you should be training for a marathon.

Running 50 minutes after giving birth

I must say, the New York Times story about Kara Goucher, running fifty minutes on the day she gave birth, doesn't sound very healthy to me.

They're athletes! Nothing to do with me

Personally I don't let these supermoms get to me: after all, they're athletes! They're sooo not in my league, they don't even bother me.

However, they dó scare me a bit, with their little panties and flat stomachs.

prefer the more forgiving running skirts, and tank tops that cover my tummy.

What do you think: are these running moms ruining it for other moms by setting the bar too high?

I have to laugh... because I would never in my wildest dreams compare myself to those athletes! Their job is running. For most of us, it's just a recreational hobby. I've learned a long time ago to stop comparing myself to others and just do the best I can. :)

I feel the same as Jess. If you compare yourself to them than you are just setting yourself up to fail. Why do woman need to keep pointing out how much others do so that we are giving the idea to feel bad about ourselves. That article should have been written from the standpoint of that they ARE Moms and look what they are able to continue doing, not that they are making the rest of us feel bad, which they don't. Mom or not females need to celebrate accomplishments and use it inspire us, not make us feel bad about ourselves!

Everyone has a passion, and well for some moms it's running! I love my new little girl, but staying in shape and being healthy is so important to me too. Do I run lots? nope. But I do workout 5 days a week. But totally love what you wrote! We have to stop comparing ourselves to others or we will just never be happy!
Happy Friendly Friday to you. Remember you are one beautiful lady and mommy!

Hey there new friend!! So glad you found my blog! I love yours. Your header is the cutest. You need to help me out!! I am so technically challenged. I see all these cute blog headers and can't figure out how they did it?

As far as those runner moms. They are inspirational and help me get my butt off the couch AND I would love to have their jobs! haha, but I don't ever feel like I have to live up to them. Once you start running for yourself and experience that sense of accomplishment of doing something your never in your wildest dreams thought you would ever do, Who cares about what others can do? That feeling is a keeper and something to be so proud of! Looking forward to following you!

Oh, no. I was never good at sports before I was a mom, and I'm not now. I am not a musician of any sort, either - but it doesn't keep me from singing in the car when the windows are rolled up and I'm all alone.

I run because if feels great - not because I feel better than anyone else. (Like everyone else here :)

Nah, they don't ruin it for me. I have the best child and I love my life. They don't even pop up on my radar. It's very good for them to be able to do what they want to do, and I am able to do what I want to do! :o) Great Post!

How about the woman who ran the Chicago marathon 39 weeks pregnant?!?

http://espn.go.com/chicago/story/_/id/7084374/oh-baby-woman-runs-chicago-marathon-gives-birth

I thought about that a lot during my last pregnancy when I could barely keep up with my walking. I have to admit that it did make me feel bad about myself. I consider myself to be in really good shape but when I'm pregnant working out is very challenging. That being said I give these women props, wish I could keep up!
