If a runner runs 26 miles and no one is around to see her do it, did she run a marathon?
In other words: can you run a marathon, while not participating in an official marathon?!
This question was inspired by that age old philosophical question: If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?

I'd say you ran marathon distance not a marathon. I consider the marathon the "event" not the distance.
I think she did, she needs equal appreciation. There are SO many things which wouldn't let us join in for a marathon no matter how bad we want it. So let us learn to appreciate the efforts we are putting in everyday to see a glimpse of our dreams.
