Do Ladies Runs discriminate against men?

ladies run

After two feminist waves of women fighting for equal rights, there's an interesting phenomenon in the world of running: Ladies Runs.

Ladies Runs: no men allowed

And they are getting more and more popular, and frequent. Ladies Runs are runs especially for women, and men are not appreciated, except to cheer the women on.

One of the reasons to have Ladies Runs, I heard, is that men have this disgusting habit of cleaning their nose while running. They do this by applying a finger to the right nostril and then they snort.
Yuck.

So I can certainly understand the longing for Ladies Runs: being equal is all very well, but not if you have to duck flying snot.

Do you think Ladies Runs are a good thing?
Do Ladies Runs discriminate against men?
And would Men Runs be acceptable?

what a cute blog! I don't know how I feel about this. I think it should just be both men and women. I think I'd hesitate to participate in a woman only one?

I participate in one women only tri thoughout the year. I think it is nice for first timers. The ladies are all encouraging and supportive and I never get half-drowned like I have at a men/women swim start.
I haven't seen any men only races, but I don't think it would bother me. Although the men only dining room at the golf club my dad is a member of DOES bother me.

Thanks for your comment on my blog! It's an interesting question you raise here - I think I'd rather participate in a mixed sex race, but I can imagine that a lot of beginners enjoy the support of a women only field. I've seen a couple of men only races too, but not as many. I don't think it's discrimination, though - there are so many different types of race - something for everyone!
