Is Christmas like running a marathon?

Saturday, December 22, 2018

I noticed that many bloggers are counting down the days till Christmas, in much the same way runners count down the days till a marathon. They have countdown tickers on their blog and everything.

There's also an avalanche of posts about how to survive the Christmas holidays and how to make them less stressful...

Is Christmas like running a marathon?

What could this mean? Can Christmas be seen as a marathon? A marathon of being jolly, visiting with family and generally eating a lot? And if so, is it something you can train for? Certainly many of us have been preparing since september for Christmas, if not sooner.

Is Christmas a marathon of the mind, of enforced jollity and family-get-to-gethers?

I can't help but wonder.

  1. All I know is that your countdown widget made me completely realize how much I have to do, and how little time I have...GAH!

    ;-)) Merry Christmas!

  3. I prefer to think of the countdown clocks as anticipation and excitement rather then time left. There is definitely a lot to do, but I figure if it doesn't get done, no one will miss it.

  4. Christmas is a marathon of trying to get everything done before Christmas gets here - shopping, wrapping, cooking, sending cards, mailing packages, school parties, decorating - it truly is like a marathon to me! (However I have to say I am in the home stretch and will I will complete this year's "marathon" right one time, yay me! :-)
