Do no fear the blank run!

running

Have you ever stared at a blank piece of paper, knowing you had to fill it with something worthwhile? Or have you ever stared at an empty Word document waiting for your witty insights?

How a blank page is like starting a run

That intimidating, rather frightening, blank page or document is very similar to those first steps when you go for a run. You're just starting out, you haven't done anything yet, and the whole run lies before you like a big empty slate. You can't motivate yourself by thinking: 'I've already done 5 miles! I rock!' All there is, is that blank run in front of you.

Filling in the blanks, step by step

But know that with every step you take you're filling in the blanks. And with every step it gets easier. And soon you cán tell yourself: 'I've already done 5 miles! I'm a runner, hear me roar!'

Accept that the first steps are hard

The trick is to accept that those first steps are difficult. Don't let fear of that blank page or blank run throw you or intimidate you into giving up. Accept your doubts or longing to quit as you would a guest.

Offer them a seat and just keep running!

It is amazing how tough those first steps (miles!) can be sometimes - but always worth it to keep going :)
