5 things no one tells you about running

There are some things about running, no one tells you.

Sure they'll tell you it's good for your health and stuff, but there's more to running than that.

So I'm going to tell you 5 things I learned about running, no one told me!

1. No, it does nót get any easier!

Yeah I know. Bummer, right?! But I've been running for 13 years now, and I can honestly say it has not become easier! I'm still not light footed and running like a gazelle. I'm still lumbering along.

2. A new outfit can really boost morale

Now, they won't tell you this, because it sounds a bit flighty. But buying new running clothes can really help to get you out the door next time you have to go for a run.

3. There's a fine line between discipline and compulsion

Lots of runners get jittery if they don't get their run in. They feel like something is óff. That's their compulsion to run talking. I myself suffer from this affliction too. I like to say I'm very disciplined, but sometimes I wonder if I've crossed over to the dark side of being a bit compulsive.

4. Runners can be really annoying!

There are lots of runners out there who'll tell you: 'Oh I'm súch a slow runner! Everyone passes me by when I run.' And just when you start to feel better about your own pace they add something like: 'It took me 45 minutes and 67 seconds to run 10 kilometers! Can you believe that? I'm sooooo slow.'

5. Running can become your best friend

Even though running does not get easier, running cán become your very best friend. It's always there for you, and you can always count on it to make you feel better!

It's true a new outfit or a new pair of kicks can help you get through a good run. I always feel great when I have new shoes on.

Good list! I love a new piece of running gear and get so excited to try it out! I would also add that no one told me of all the tummy problems running could give me - might just be me, but about 50% of the time I come home with awful stomach problems. I thought it was just supposed to make you feel good!

Nice list! I've realised I have 3 phases regarding running.
1. I love the IDEA of running and get excited about going, what I'll wear, what music I'll listen to and where I'll go etc.
2. If I do actually make it out the door, I dislike running immediately - unless I'm running somewhere with a great view. I get bored of it quickly!
3. Once I finish my run, I love it again and am back to loving the IDEA of running!! http://labellavidaaa.blogspot.ie

So glad to hear someone else say it doesn't get easier, in fact as you get older it gets harder on the knees and feet....oh well, I'm still going to go run, just stopping by from Saturday Sharefest

Shoes re the one thing that do nót work all that well for me. In fact I always kind of miss my old shoes! They've become like old well worn friends, and it takes me a while to befriend my new running shoes.

Hi Kristin, I'm sorry you're having stomach problems! This is something I'm not familiar with. Maybe the running is stimulating your bowels or something?

I hope you'll be able to run without these problems soon.

You're so right Laurie: it doesn't really matter that it doesn't get any easier. It's a matter of just continuing to run!

I know just what you mean Joey! I get bored too, which is why I listen to country songs during my runs!

New clothes always feels motivating to me or new shoes. I really love buying and wearing new running gear. But I would still love running without it, I am a compulsive runner.

Visiting from the social media mixer and i must say i love this list! Especially the one where people tell you they run so slow! I just trained and ran my first 10k, and when i run that far i run 11 minute miles. I never believe people now when they tell me they are slow runners, because usually they are faster than me, haha!
